History

1889

Okumura Togyu was born in Tokyo.

1905

He studied under Kajita Hanko.

1914

After Hanko's death, he studied under Kobayashi Kokei.

1917

He assumed a pen name "Togyu".

1932

He was appointed to the "Dojin" of The Japan Art Institute.

1947

He was appointed to a member of The Japan Art Academy.

1959

He took office as a director of The Japan Art Institute.

1962

He was given the Order of Culture, and was selected to Person of Cultural Merits.

1978

He took office as a chief director of The Japan Art Institute.

1990

Okumura Togyu passed away in Tokyo at 101 years old.
